FIBER POST
A fiber post is a dental post made of glass or quartz fibers embedded in resin, used to restore a root canal–treated tooth. It is placed inside the prepared root canal to help retain a core buildup and final crown.
What is it used for?
• Reinforce endodontically treated teeth
• Provide retention for composite core
• Support a crown restoration
Main Advantages
• Similar elasticity to natural dentin (reduces root fracture risk)
• Esthetic (tooth-colored, ideal under all-ceramic crowns)
• Bonds with resin cement and composite core
• No corrosion (unlike metal posts)
In a fiber post kit (20 posts + 4 drills), the different colors usually indicate diameter (size) — not material.
Each color corresponds to a specific post size and its matching drill for canal preparation.
? Typical Color Coding (may vary by brand)
• Yellow → Small size (e.g., 1.0 mm)
• Red / Orange → Medium-small (e.g., 1.2 mm)
• Blue / White → Medium (e.g., 1.4 mm)
• Green → Large (e.g., 1.6 mm)
