Montana Jack Scaler is a periodontal hand instrument designed for removing heavy supragingival and light subgingival calculus, especially in interproximal areas and posterior teeth. It is considered a sickle scaler, meaning it has a pointed tip and two sharp cutting edges, which makes it very effective for breaking and removing hard calculus deposits.
The Montana Jack scaler has a slightly curved, extended shank and a thin working end, allowing better access to tight interproximal spaces and deep areas around molars. Because of its strong cutting edges, it is commonly used during the initial scaling phase to remove large calculus before finishing with curettes.
